This season’s Faughan Valley Cup semi-final line-up was completed on Sunday and will see Brigade play Coleraine while Bready entertain Donemana.
The two sides to emerge from Group B had already been decided ahead of Brigade’s trip to Ballymagorry after Andy Britton’s men won twice on Saturday against Donemana and Eglinton. The Holm side had earlier booked their place with victories over the villagers and then Fox Lodge on Friday night.
All that was left to be decided was top spot in the table and home advantage for the semi-final and despite a 5-run defeat for the visitors; maximum bonus points mean it is they who will have the honour.
In truth it was a low-key affair with the Foxies making 132-4 from their 20 overs as they batted first. Cebo Tshiki hit 8 fours and 2 sixes in his 52 while Brian Allen (22), Aidan Logue (19*) and Jason Milligan (17) were the other contributors of note.
Andy Britton was easily the pick of Brigade’s bowling with 3-15 and the Brigade skipper opted for a very experimental batting order in reply, with himself one of the two openers. He may decide to do that more often following an impressive 60 that included 4 fours and four sixes but somehow it wasn’t to be enough.
Johnny Thompson added 22 and Niall McDonnell was unbeaten on 21 but a terrific spell from Adam Boyd (4-28) and 2-20 from Lee Finlay held the group leaders up long enough for Fox Lodge to post a 5-run win.
Coleraine, who were docked 10 points for their “no-show” at Strabane recovered to claim the runners-up spot in Group A courtesy of a 7-wicket win at home to Ardmore. Skipper Scott Campbell made an unbeaten 50 and Varun Chopra 22* as the Bannsiders easily chased down the visitors 92-9 with almost 4 overs to spare.
Ciaran Curley with 25 and former Coleraine player Steve Lazars (22) were best of Ardmore’s effort while Graham Hume (2-15) and Shar Khan (2-20) claimed the honours with the ball.
Dates for the semi-finals have yet to be confirmed.
