GABY LEWIS starred to lead the Dragons to a winning start in the Super 3 series at Merrion on Friday evening.
The YMCA teenager struck 9 fours and 3 sixes in a belligerent innings of 89 from only 53 deliveries which led her team to an imposing 199 for 6 in their 20 overs.
Lewis dominated an opening stand of 50 with Cecelia Joyce (15), and added 90 with overseas player Kerrie Tomlinson for the 3rd wicket, who also cleared the ropes 3 times in an entertaining 39 from just 27 balls.
Louise Little claimed 2 for 42, while other wicket takers were fellow Irish internationals Amy Kenealy (1-33) and Sophie MacMahon (1-47).
The Typhoons never got anywhere near challenging the daunting total, and finished on 129 for 8, with Sophie MacMahon top scoring with an entertaining unbeaten 41 from only 22 deliveries (5 fours, 1 six).
There were other double figure contributions from Irish skipper Laura Delany (29*), Amy Benson (15), Amy Kenealy (14), and Louise Little.
Gaby Lewis completed a fine all-round display by claiming 2 for 14, while there were a wicket apiece for Kerrie Tomlinson (1-12), Lara Maritz (1-16) and Rachel Delaney.
The teams are back in action again on Sunday when the Scorchers will play both in further T20 action.
