The Premier Division in Munster finally got under-way last weekend (two weeks behind schedule) with Co Galway recording a comfortable 44 run win (DLS Method) over Co Kerry at Lydican on Sunday. Both teams will have hopes of challenging for the Premier title this season but it was Galway who took the early honours. Subramanya Ramnathpul, who also plays for Rush in LCU Division 2, scored an unbeaten 68 to help Galway post a score of 158/8. Veteran Shani Alan was the pick of the Co Kerry bowlers taking 4 wickets for a miserly 17 runs off 10 overs.
Co Kerry would have felt confident chasing 159 at the interval but on resumption the loss of the wickets of both Ahmed and Azeem Khan, both caught behind by Kumail Jaffery from the bowling of Renjith Nair, followed by the wicket of Arsalan Anwar put Kerry on the back foot and chasing the game. The middle order were no match for the pace bowling of Sukhpal Singh who finished on figures of 4 for 14 from 5 overs before the rains came.
The other fixture between Cork Harlequins and Limerick was called off due to Farmer's Cross being unplayable.
