There were plenty of exciting clashes despite the poor weather as the 2018 Leprechaun Cup got underway last week.

Performance of the season so far goes to Castaheany's Avyay Mynampati who took 5 for 3, including four in four balls as his side beat Castleknock in a low scoring contest. Srihan Karpe also took 3 for 5 as Castaheany won by 12 runs.

Whitechurch's Harry Saint Ledger was the man of the match with a fine all-round display making an unbeaten 30 and taking two wickets as his team got the better of St Kilians's. Ethan Clarke also hit 30 in the seven wickets win despite the best efforts of Olan Storey who to scored with an undefeated 30 for St Kilian's.

Arman Rahman took 4-6 and Savin Shamim 3-15 as Taney Parish were dismissed for 67. It didn't look enough but superb bowling from Daniel Jones 3-3 and Aoife Cameron 2-11 saw St Joseph's kept to 53 for 8.

Michael Flood took 4-14 as Our Lady Immaculate Darndale beat St Francis by three wickets, despite the best efforts of Kane Walsh who claimed 4 for 21.

Tanay Gupta (3-5) and Ethan Kenny (3-4) took three wickets apiece as St Mochta's cruised to a seven wicket win against St Patrick's.

The closest game of the competition saw St Kevin's beat Esker by one run in a pulsating tie.

Sam Sheridan (14) top scored for St Kevin's with Wasi Nasir 3-5 and Shawais Atif 3-7 bowling excellently.

Shawais Atif (27) and Wasi Nasir (18*) looked to have won it for Esker, but Jack Ellis (2-19) and Waleed Ahmed (1-6) held their nerve with great death bowling to seal the dramatic win.

A fine all-round display by Elliot Smith who top scored with an unbeaten 21 followed by two wickets saw St Bosco's beat St Brigid's by 22 runs.

In the coming weeks, similar age-group competitions will commence – Super league, 4th Class cup and Fingal girls.
