Downpatrick are sure to be among the front runners for promotion from Section One when the league gets under way in two weeks time.
The club have recruited overseas player Matt Acocks for the campaign. He is a 22 year-old Australian who plays in the Victoria Premier League.
A top order batsman who also keeps wicket, he is currently working his way up the coaching ladder, and he's sure to be a fine addition at Strangford Road.
Ross Boultwood is at the helm at The Meadow, and he's expecting a tough season.
"Last year we had a strong start to the season but yet again our performances dipped to the latter stages of the campaign," said Boultwood.
"Our stats with the ball were fantastic in 2017, and this year we are hoping that we will have a better season in the batting department and if we can piece that together with our bowling, we are confident that we will have a good year.
"We are in the process of rebuilding our youth and with the signing of Matt Acocks, we hope that we can continue our youth development.
"I think this year will be the toughest yet with the signings that other clubs have made in Section One it will be hard to pick a winner.
"I am looking forward to my first year as club captain and will be building on what Craig has worked on over the last two seasons."
The club have the benefit of three home games to begin the season, with Woodvale (April 21), Cregagh (April 28) and Lisburn (May 5) the visitors.
Early points could well build their momentum and kick-start a successful season.
