PEMBROKE

  • Captain: Fiachra Tucker
  • Overseas Player: Alex Ridley
  • Players in/out: none
  • Young Players to watch: Gavin Hoey

It was in many ways a disappointing season for Pembroke who have threatened to win trophies over the past few years but haven't delivered.

There will be a new overseas player at Sydney Parade with New Zealander Alex Ridley arriving. The young all-rounder has just broken into the Wellington first XI and has impressed in his initial matches.

They also have a new captain at the helm with former Irish youth international Fiachra Tucker taking the armband.

"After a disappointing league campaign last year, we hope to rectify that this year and hit the ground running leading up to the first league fixture," said Tucker.

"We have a youthful squad again this year but at the same time have plenty of Inter provincial and International experience in Andy Balbirnie, Lorcan Tucker and Josh Little which will hopefully lead us to some silverware this season.

"Teenager Gavin Hoey will be looking to break into the first team this season. He has spent his winter in St.Stithians school in Johannesberg working hard at his cricket which will give him an advantage leading into the cricket season. Gav has also performed well for Ireland and Leinster under 15s last year.

"We have two pre-season friendlies lined up against Merrion and CIYMS. Both friendlies are against tough opposition which will hopefully prepare us and put us in good stead leading up to the first league fixture against Phoenix."
