2017 was a superb season for Waringstown. Can they emulate it in the forthcoming campaign?
"From last year's squad we are still blessed to have plenty of young players in James McCollum, Adam Dennison, Marcus McClean and James Mitchell," said captain Greg Thompson.
"This group of players are proven performers at this level, but still have an awful lot of potential to fulfil. James McCollum recently received an Interprovincial contract, the hope is he and the other young players would get greater representative recognition.
"Jack Carson is starting to make a name for himself over in England at Sussex CCC following a school year in their academy and a tour with their senior squad. Beneath that we have a few very talented boys who will hopefully break into the 1st XI in the next couple of seasons - Sam Topping, Matthew Daly, Michael Waite and Shane Burke to name a few.
"A number of players from last year's squad (Morgan Topping, Jonny Waite and David Dawson) have followed Aaron Wright's example from the previous year and have moved on in the search of 1st XI cricket, and we wish them the best, and trust that they will do well.
"Our starting XI hasn't changed since last year's success, and the loss of 2 or 3 squad members will provide opportunities to some of our talented younger players as well as more experienced guys like Matthew Purse, Andrew Mitchell, Ross Waite and Ryan Dennison, who will get opportunities to show off their own abilities.
"It will obviously be difficult to replicate last season's achievements, however that will be our challenge, and one which this squad will relish - 2017 was a great season that was built around a tight knit squad and a lot of hard work - I expect 2018 to be no different."
