Irish international leg-spinner Ciara Metcalfe has joined Northants for the 2018 season.

Metcalfe, who was player-coach at The Hills last year, has been given an opportunity to play and coach in England.

"I'm going over to coach with Lydia Greenway’s Cricket for Girls, so I’ll be based in the Midlands," said Metcalfe.

"I’ll play cricket with Northants for three months while we prepare for the WCQ in Holland in July."

Metcalfe has played 84 times for Ireland since her debut back in 1999, and is currently the country's second higehest wicket taker with 95 wickets, behind only Isobel Joyce.

She will be returning to Australia where she made a big impression in a coaching role this winter.

"I head back to Brisbane in August to my club Wynnum Manly CC to take back up my Womens/Girls cricket Development role," added Metcalfe.

As well as the T20 World Cup Qualifying competition in The Netherlands, she will be available for the matches against New Zealand and Bangladesh, but her appearances in the Super 3 tournament will be limited.
