West of Scotland sign Trevor Garwe
West of Scotland have signed Zimbabwean all-rounder Trevor Garwe for the forthcoming campaign.
Garwe (31) is a pace bowling all-rounder who represented the Zimbabwe A side for several years before making his national debut in October 2009. Despite productive returns at domestic level, his ODI outing against Kenya has proved to date, to be a solitary one.
A bowler with genuine pace, Garwe has taken 192 wickets at first-class level, averaging 28.89 with four 5-wicket hauls. He has become a consistent performer at domestic level, with the 2009/10 season being his most prolific, taking 33 wickets at 25.69 and also hitting his maiden century (117) amongst 472 runs at 33.71. Garwe was also on song last season (2015/16) taking 25 wickets at 21.72 in the Logan Cup, culminating with Zimbabwe A selection against the touring South African A side.
Garwe still maintains aspirations to break back into the national fold, albeit realises due to his age, this now seems unlikely. Nevertheless, he will continue to perform at domestic level.
After his maiden stint with Cornwall club Newquay back in 2011, he spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons plying his trade with Wellington in the Birmingham League. He excelled in his opening summer taking 28 wickets at 14.39 including best bowling figures of 6-30. He also scored a half-century (62) and averaged 18.25 with the bat, albeit opportunities were limited. His return season wasn't as prolific, but still yielded 29 wickets at 22.03 and 138 runs at 8.12.
He returned for the 2017 season to play for Eglinton in the NW Premier League and has had a brilliant all round year racking up 347 runs at 24.79 and with the ball has snared 11 victims at 32.09.
Garwe comes recommended as not only a talented cricketer, but a genuinely nice bloke and would be a quality acquisition as he returns for the 2018 season.
