Netherlands speedster Timm van der Gugten has been give a boost ahead of the World Cup Qualifiers with the news that Glamorgan have extended his contract until the end of the 2020 season.

The Australian enjoyed a superb debut season for the Welsh county in 2016, taking 82 wickets and winning their Player of the Year award.

However a shoulder injury sustained against Hong Kong severely restricted his appearances in 2017, but Glamorgan are happy to tie down the paceman, who turns 27 this weekend.

"Pace bowlers are absolutely fundamental in any team, and to have those guys nailed down is really encouraging," Glamorgan chief executive Hugh Morris told the BBC.

"Timm van der Gugten is now fully fit and playing in the World Cup qualifiers shortly."

Van Der Gugten has played four ODI's and 25 T20I's for his adopted country, as well as playing first-class cricket with New South Wales and Tasmania.
