Ireland’s first Test match in England is set to be announced by the ECB on Wednesday, when they reveal the venues for every home Test from 2020-24.

In a Future Tours Programme leak last year, Ireland were down to play at least one Test in England in 2021 and that could be confirmed this week.

It will be too late for players like Ed Joyce and Niall O’Brien but they will be trying to help Ireland reach next year’s World Cup in England and Wales.

A full-strength squad arrived in South Africa yesterday for four games – the first on Thursday against a Northern/Easterns franchise side – before they head on to Zimbabwe for the qualifying tournament, which starts on March 4.
