Irish all-rounder Stuart Thompson is spending two months playing club cricket in South Africa.

The 26 year-old Eglinton man will be based at Old Grey Cricket Club in Port Elizabeth during February and March.

Thompson was one of 14 players awarded a Category A contract earlier this month, but didn't make the squad for the World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe.

The Warriors players will be on stand-by for the team should there be any injuries during their four warm-up matches in Pretoria or during the actual WCQ in Harare.

Thompson has won 59 international caps to date scoring 652 runs at an average of 17.62, scoring half centuries against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka A. In addition he has taken 37 wickets at 35.46 with his best bowling figures of 3 for 10 coming against Nepal.
