NUI Galway successfully defended their Indoor University crown with a 12-run win over hosts Ulster University in a high scoring final in the superb facility at Jordanstown.

Mitul Galav's brilliant all-round performance was the difference between the sides in a contest that ebbed and flowed throughout.

He top scored with 55 in Galway's formidable total of 153 for 4 in 10 overs, smashing 4 sixes as well as two fours.

He was well supported by Arjun who also hit 4 sixes in a rapid unbeaten 38, and Rajit who made a fluent 34.

Northern Knights all-rounder Peter Eakin (2-44) was the most successful of the bowlers.

To be fair to Ulster, they were unfazed by such a daunting total and with Adam Dennison hitting three sixes in a quickfire 54, they were always in contention.

Peter Eakin (33*) and David Robinson (17) were also in the runs, but three wickets from Mitul ensured Galway went home with the trophy yet again.

A super tournament which ran smoothly over the three days thanks to the diligence of the organisers ensured all 12 teams went home happy.

There's a lot of exciting cricket ahead on the University scene this summer with the outdoor championships being held first, followed by the annual Fenners tournament when the Irish team will be attempting to make it a hat-trick of titles against Cambridge and Scotland.
