The NCU has retained the U11 crown with a 9 wicket victory over the North West in the final game of the series.

Play at Glendermott was not possible and the option of play on the outdoor 4G surface at the Foyle Arena was taken up as an alternative to a bowl out.

The U11 games have been dogged by bad weather in recent times and the memory remains of the ‘big’ match between Leinster and NCU last year at Balbriggan being played through persistent heavy drizzle.

This is a level where there is a desire above all to ‘play’ cricket rather than find reasons not to and the enthusiasm of the youngsters for the game is something to be nurtured rather than queried.

In today’s encounter the North West batted first and in their 18 overs totalled 93 for the loss of 5 wickets, McBeth (28) and Roulston (26) their leading scorers while for the NCU Daniel Henry took 2 wickets for 9 runs.

In reply the NCU lost yesterday’s top scorer Ryan Hunter for only 8, caught and bowled by Bell.
The next pair Angus Carson (29) and Harry Dyer (32) combined in an unbroken partnership of 82 to see the NCU home by 9 wickets and thus retain the U11 Interprovincial title.
