Scotland Under 15's took a 2-1 lead in the Celtic Cup series when they chased 228 to beat Ireland by four wicket in Ayr.

The successful chase was due primarily to Asad Khan, whose unbeaten 55 proved the difference in a tense encounter. He shared an unbroken 7th wicket stand of 41 with Charlie Peet (22*) after the game had been evenly poised at 188 for 6.

Spinner Mitchell Thompson was the pick of the Irish attack, taking 2 for 19, while Lisburn's Nathan Doak also claimed a brace.

Reece Malone top scored for the Irish with 47 from 59 balls (4 fours), sharing a 5th wicket stand of 84 with Gavin Hoey (36). Oliver Metcalfe (39), Tim Tector (23), and Mitchell Thompson (22*) were also amongst the runs in a solid batting effort.

The series concludes today (FRI) when the teams play a T20 encounter, after which the Irish go to England where they will play Surrey, Hertfordshire, and the West Indies at Merchant Taylor's School.
