There will be 10 Ulster clubs in the last 16 of the Irish Senior Cup after their most successful first round day in almost 20 years.

The eight winning sides will join Waringstown and Instonians, who received byes, in Wednesday's draw and with four Leinster clubs - who have dominated the competition since 2001 - among their victims, there is a real possibility of an Ulster success for only the third time this millennium.

Donemana, the North West double winners led the victory parade - or rather Gary McClintock did. His brilliant 132 not out ensured a thrilling three wickets victory in Dublin, over Leinster champions Clontarf who had reduced their visitors to 119 for six.

At that stage McClintock was 55 not out and Donemana needed another 122 from 19 overs but with superb placement and shots all round the wicket, he finished with 18 fours and a six after coming to the middle in the second over.

He had earlier picked up the wicket of five-times Irish Cup winner John Mooney who continues to show Ireland what they are missing after his premature retirement from the international stage with a patient 60.

Brigade's 324 for five was the highest total of the day, with Niall O'Donnell hitting 120 and Johnny Thompson 91 in their 59 runs DLS victory over Leinster while Bready and Coleraine are the other North West teams in the draw, although the Bannsiders had only 19 runs to spare over Railway Union, grateful for an eighth-wicket stand of 52 in the last seven overs between uncle and nephew Tim and Varun Chopra.

Most impressive NCU winners were CIYMS who chased down North County's 262 for seven with 13 balls to spare in Balrothery. John Matchett continues to shine at the top of the order, he hit 93 off 80 balls and an unbeaten run-a-ball 64 from skipper Nigel Jones finished the job.

North Down (141-4) won at Fox Lodge by six wickets, and there were home wins for Muckamore and Lisburn. But Carrickfergus have still won only one Irish Cup tie in 13 attempts; they lost their first game of the season by 131 runs, after Phoenix hit 312 for eight at Middle Road.
