44 players and 10 coaches descended onto the Meadowbank Indoor Arena in Magherafelt on Sunday as in a first of its kind, a youth interpro blitz was held.

Given the vagaries of the Northern Irish weather, the superb indoor facility took it out of the equation and a thrilling series of matches took place.

The players ranged from 8 to 11 and thoroughly enjoyed the inter-union rivalry in a series of 8 a side games.

A NW spokesperson said: "This was the first time an inter-union indoor cricket blitz was held in either the NW or NCU.

"The blitz was organised in order to let the coaches of both unions see what the players were like in match situations, rather than the competition.

"No results were kept, however, all of the games were very competitive with game four the NWCU winning on the last ball of the innings by 1 run."

The venture was such a success that the Unions hope to organise another one in the near future.
