Afghanistan appoint former India batsman as new coach
Former India batsman Laichand Rajput has replaced Inzamam-ul-Haq as Afghanistan coach
Rajput had been in line for the India coaches job before Anil Kumble accepted that position on Thursday, leaving Rajput free to accept the Afghan job. Other contenders for the job included Mohammad Yousuf, Herschel Gibbs and Corey Collymore.
Rajput's previous coaching experience includes stints coaching Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy and Mumbai Indians in the IPL, as well as the India Under-19 team. He played in two Tests and four ODIs for India in the 1980s.
His first assignment will be Afghanistan's tour of Europe next month, which will see them play two ODIs in Scotland, five ODIs in Ireland and an Intercontinental Cup match in the Netherlands.
