Jersey Evening Post logoYoung and emerging talented cricketers are being given an opportunity to win places in the Jersey Cricket Board's squad for the World Cricket League Division V tournament in Nepal in February.

JCB coach Craig Hogan's large squad start their fitness programme towards the six-nation tournament this weekend by taking part in Durrell's Conservation Trust run tomorrow morning.

Hogan said when he took up his coaching role last March that he would look to blood the youngsters and he is being true to his word as six under-18s and seven under-23s are now in the running for Nepal.

Hogan said: ‘We have the usual group of older players and those coming in are part of our training development squad and they all have a chance making the squad for Nepal.

‘We will be taking some of them; that's for sure. This is the path we are now taking and those that don't go will continue to be looked at and I'm sure many of them will be pushing for first-team places next year.'
