These Friday Re Fixes in the Bob Kerr Irish senior cup are always difficult for the away team and this was to prove to be the case in this match.
On a pleasant day for Cricket at the Cabra Oval.Old Belvedere won the toss and batted. Robbie Patterson & Darryl Calder set about the task. They put on 32 for the first wicket but crucially got through the new ball period of the game,Calder departed trapped LBW by Hussain for a well made (20).Patterson and Belvedere captain Sameer Dutt put on 40 before Dutt departed for (25) bowled by Gordon Cooke. This brought Yogesh Kumar to the wicket,Kumar made 79 from 67 balls in a fine innings he was assisted by Patterson (26) ,Ali (13),Peter O'Donnell (12) all in valuable partnerships.Yogesh departed in the 44th over with the score at 173.Mark simpson bowled a got spell at the death for Brigade but two breezy cameos from Peter Flanagan(15) and Sadaff Raza(11) made sure the Belvedere innings closed at 215 all out in 49.3 overs.Pick of the Brigade bowlers where Mark simpson 5 for 43 and Gordon Cooke 3 for 40.
Brigade where going to have to bat well to get the total and found Old Belvedere in determined mood. Richie ODonnell and Yogesh Kumar reduced Brigade to 19 for 3.When Moran was run out in crazy circumstances Brigade where up against it,Gordon Cooke was going well and smashed Richie O'Donnell for a 6 over mid Wicket. Cooke continued to play in a positive manner,Leg spinner Sadaff Raza was introduced Cooke tried to hit against the Spin and holed out to Ali at mid wicket for a well made (20) ,Mark Simpson was bowled for 0 by Richie O'Donnell and the jig was almost up for Brigade.Yogesh Brilliantly ran Simo out with a direct hit who had taunted Yogesh to throw the ball which he did and a stunned Simo was well out of his ground when the stumps where broken.Dutt and Raza bowled the last two batsmen. Brigade where bundled out for 66 in the 19th over Yogesh claiming 2 for 13 ,Richie O'Donnell 2 for 22,Raza 3 for 11 ,Dutt 1 for 10 to go with the two run outs. It will be Old Belvedere who go on to face the much fancied Limavady next Saturday at the Cabra Oval in the next round of the Bob Kerr Irish senior cup.
After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Strabane got off to a slow start at Claremont Road, losing their first wicket with just 2 runs on the board.
Terence Patton made a steady 35 accompanied by an excellent 71 from Jonathan Beukes as Strabane reached a very competitive total of 231 against a weakened YMCA bowling attack. Strydom taking 3 for 42.
231 runs looked a good enough score to beat for a YMCA team with an under strength batting line up and the home side was going to need a big innings from somebody if they were to get close to the target and that's exactly what occured. An opening stand of 137 from Strydom and Lewis broke the hearts of the Stabane attack.
The away side didn't help themselves with their over abundance of no balls and extras and used 8 bowlers in all, as they failed to make the necessary breakthroughs and the right time. Strydom was in dominant form compiling 87 before falling lbw to Eaglestone, while Alan Lewis played an accompanying role with 51.
A few more YM wickets fell giving the home side a few nervous flutters as they neared the target but finally came out comfortable winners by 5 wickets with 4 overs to spare.
