This year's ICC Europe regional Development Programme Awards represent a double success for CricketEurope.
Both awards derive from the tournament website for the World Cricket League Division 5 competition in Jersey last June, which the CricketEurope team were contracted to run by the host body, the Jersey Cricket Board.
The Photo of the Year award went to Barry Chambers, who managed to capture all ten wickets as Nepal's Mahaboob Alam demolished Mozambique single-handed. A montage of Barry's photos of all ten dismissals was presented to Mahaboob at the end of the tournament (see picture).
The ICC Europe announcement of the awards states that ‘Barry's ability to capture each and every wicket was also a remarkable achievement in itself – a key reason why Barry was selected as the worthy winner of this category'.
Barry Chambers said on Thursday: ‘I'm naturally delighted to have won this prestigious award. It's indicative of just how much the Associates game has developed, that an Irish photographer wins for his photos of a game between Nepal and Mozambique in Jersey!
‘I'd like to pay tribute to the late Billy McLeod who taught me so much, and to my colleagues in both Irish cricket and CricketEurope for all their support over the past decade.'
The WCL Division 5 website itself no doubt contributed to the Jersey Board's winning the Best Cricket Promotion and Marketing Award for its efforts in promoting the tournament.
Sponsored by Pepsi, the NatWest Bank, Jersey Enterprise and the States of Jersey, the site received more than 1.4 million page hits during the nine days of competition.
