Rahmat Wali, who played for Afghanistan on their tours of Pakistan in 2001 and 2003, was found dead in his home on Wednesday morning.

Reports are coming out of Afghanistan that he was killed in a coalition forces raid led by US troops. Speaking to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Afghan Olympic Committee representative Aziz Malang Zazai said, "he brought honor to this country. He was martyred in his house. It was a cruel act."

Afghanistan captain Nowroz Mangal said that international troops raided his home, locked him in a room and used poison gas and a hand grenade on him. Mangal also said that Wali had no connections to insurgents.

The governor of Khost Province confirmed that Wali had been killed by international troops, but did not elaborate beyond that. Coalition forces had no comment.

There are conflicting reports coming out on the player's death, and an investigation has been launched.
