With instability in Pakistan following the killing of Benazir Bhutto last month threatening the forthcoming Australian tour of Pakistan, Sri Lanka Cricket have written to the Pakistan Cricket Board offering to host the Asia Cup in June.

The tournament is scheduled to be played in Pakistan in June, and will feature the UAE and Hong Kong (not Oman as some have erroneously reported) from the associate world, alongside the four Asian Test playing nations.

Speaking on the sidelines of a press conference to promote tourism, Sri Lanka Cricket's Arjuna Ranatunga said, "We have written and asked Pakistan if we can host the Asia Cup. It's a sensitive issue, but we will understand if Pakistan refuse us."

Pakistan have so far shown to be unwilling to move the Australian tour, so it seems unlikely that they will agree to Ranatunga's request.
