Jersey have a busy 2008 in store, with Division Five of the World Cricket League and Division Two of the European Championships on the schedule, in addition to the usual matches against neighbours Guernsey.

And the coach is Peter Kirsten, brother of recently appointed India coach Gary. He has been contracted for a two month period starting in May, and will help prepare the team for the WCL Division Five tournament, which Jersey are hosting at the end of May.

Kirsten will also help with the island's youth system, coaching at Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 levels. He is looking forward to the task, saying to the Jersey Evening Post, "I'm highly delighted by the appointment"..."I love coaching, I have been coaching in South Africa for ten years and I'm sure I can help your players. I'm highly excited by the move, your set up looks excellent and I'm looking forward to helping your younger players in the under-15, U17 and U19 groups, too."

Kirsten play twelve Tests and 40 ODIs for South Africa after they were readmitted into the international fold in 1991 until 1994. He has a top Test score of 104 and a top ODI score of 97. His internationals came towards the end of his career, and would certainly have played many more tests had South Africa been members of the ICC at the peak of his career. He also represented South Africa in 15 "Tests" and 30 "ODIs" during the "rebel" tours of the 1980s.
