Namibia win a close one
Namibia followed on from their draw against North West with a tight three run win over the same opponents in their first South African Airways One-Day Challenge match of the season.
Namibia were put into bat by North West captain Cliff Deacon, and reached 272, losing their final wicket from the last ball of the innings. Gerrit Rudolph top-scored with 87, sharing in a 130 run partnership with Gerrie Snyman, who scored 78.
Snyman bowled well at the top of the North West innings, which was reduced by rain to 41 overs, helping to collapse their line-up to 77/5 in pursuit of their reduced target of 265, before a 105 run partnership between Riyaadh Bhayat (64) and skipper Deacon rescued the innings. Deacon stayed in for the rest of the innings, scoring an unbeaten 83.
But the North West tail could not stay with their captain, and with 8 runs needed from the final three balls, Namibian captain Bjorn Kotze bowled three dot balls to number eleven Sammy Letsoalo to secure the three run win for Namibia.
