In the third place play-off, the UAE batted first against Malaysia. Largely thanks to 66 from Rohan Mustafa, they reached 172 before being dismissed in the 46th over. Sarath Ananthasivam and Fauzi Arifin both took three wickets. Malaysia had reached 126/6 from 32 overs when it started to rain. The players didn't get back out, and Malaysia were five runs short of the D/L target.

The UAE therefore won by four runs, and will have left a lot of people asking why Malaysia have been given an automatic spot in the World Cup next year, when whichever of Nepal and Afghanistan will still have to beat Scotland in a play-off in order to qualify.

In the fifth place play-off, Singapore beat Qatar, whilst Oman beat Hong Kong by five wickets in the seventh place match after bundling them out for just 95.
