Croatia have won the first European Division Three title after beating Spain in a thriller of a final.

Croatia won the toss and batted first in the final, and their top three got them off to a great start, putting on 169/2 for the first two wickets. Captain John Vujnovich led the way with a fine 88. Croatia reached 220/5 from their 50 overs, setting a low but, in this tournament, competitive target for the Spanish.

Spain set off looking good for the win. Shafique Ali scored 67 to help lead them to 118/2 when he was out. At 196/5, they look well on target to win the game, but wickets then clattered around them. They still got close to the target, needing five to win from the final over with just one wicket in hand. Sam Lupson then hit it straight to Craig Sinovich from the second ball to give Croatia the four run win.

In other matches yesterday, the Isle of Man beat Malta by 6 wickets to secure 3rd place, hosts Belgium finished in 5th after a 38 run win over Portugal and Cyprus avoided a last place finish after beating Finland by two wickets.
