On a rainy day in Saumur in Western France on Saturday, Belgium triumphed over a weakened French national team by five wickets.

The French team included just four players who played in last years European Championships in Glasgow, and the morning rain made conditions very favourable for the bowlers, with the match being played on a turf wicket. France were bowled out for 90, and Belgium reached the target for the loss of five wickets, despite some good bowling and fielding from the French.

A second match was planned for Sunday, but had to be abandoned due to rain. The French players instead enjoyed an educational visit to the Chateau de Saumur.
