The first North-West African Championship got started yesterday with two contrasting matches.

Hosts Gambia took on Mali, making their international debut, at July 22nd Square in in Banjul and racked up a huge score of 451/7 from their 50 overs with Jimmy Sabestian (132) and George Greywood (109) both scoring centuries. They then bowled Mali out for just 62, winning by the huge margin of 389 runs.

In the other game at the MRC Cricket Grounds, we had a contrast from the high scoring Gambia innings with two low scoring innings. Nigeria's Segun Odeku took 3/10 to help bowl out Sierra Leone for 96. Nigeria made a bit of a meal of what should have been a simple target, losing 6 wickets on their way to 98 from 26 overs.
