Malaysia's Under 19 cricketers have lost to Sri Lanka in the first match of a tri-series. Batting first, Malaysia struggled to 149/8 from their 50 overs, Aminuddin Ramly top-scoring with 34. Tisera Perara was the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers, taking 3/25 from his ten overs.

The target was little problem for Sri Lanka, and they reached it in 35 overs for the loss of five wickets. Lahiru Thirimanne top-scored with 45. The pick of the Malaysian bowlers was Anwar Arudin, who took 2/16 from his five overs.

Whilst Malaysia will be disappointed with the result, this series is more of a learning experience for them. By playing against the best youth players from three Test-playing nations, they are being given an oppurtunity few non-test nations are given.
