The first schools cricket tournament has been held in Yangon, the capital of Myanmar, with six teams competing in the event. The participation of the Myanmar Under-15 team in the recent ACC Under-15 challenge tournament seems to be having an affect on participation amongst children in the country.
U Nyunt Win, the president of the Myanmar Cricket Federation told the ACC, "The U-15 team, even though losers (in the ACC Challenge Cup), ignited noticeable interest in their fellow students and now many are learning to hold a bat and bowl a ball."
Similar to China, the Myanmar Cricket Federation has taken the view that cricket is a "noble game" and is actively encouraging youngsters to take up the game. Time will tell if this development initiative rubs off on the senior team who were on the receiving end of a series of drubbings in last years ACC Trophy.
