Tanzania and Zimbabwe in final day decider
The Tanzanians and Zimbabweans will clash in a winner takes all contest tomorrow after triumphing over their opponents today in Kenya.
A fine partnership between Saida Hamisi (56) and Kulwa Mayowa (47) led Tanzania to 151/5 from their 50 overs. Uganda put up a decent fight, but like other matches in this tournament, their opposition top-scored for them, with 33 runs coming from extras. Hamisi capped off a fine all-round performance with 4/32 as Uganda were dismissed for 131 to give Tanzania a 20 run win.
Extras was again the top-scorer for Zimbabwe in their match against Kenya, 58 runs coming all in wides from the Kenyan bowlers. Tandolwenkosi Mlilo scored 46 for them as they reached 189 before being dismissed in the 47th over. 22 runs came from extras in Kenya's innings, also the top-scorer as 3/19 from Shaene Meyers helped dismiss the home side for just 85, giving Zimbabwe a 104 run win.
So with Tanzania playing Zimbabwe tomorrow, that will be the deciding match in the tournament. It's a hard match to pick, though you'll have to give the edge to Zimbabwe due to the more professional set-up they have. The winners will play in the final qualifying tournament in Pakistan towards the end of 2007.
The other match tomorrow will see Uganda and Kenya try and salvage some pride by avoiding the wooden spoon position. Both teams need to stop leaking extras, although that seems to have affected all teams in the regional qualifiers.
