The Indonesian Cricket Federation only needs to have its application for membership of the Asian Cricket Council approved at the ACC's Annual General Meeting in July for its national team to be eligible to join Afghanistan, Iran, Qatar and Thailand in Group D of the preliminary stage.

ICF official, Alan Wilson, cited "playing our near neighbours, more opportunities and hopefully funding" for the switch from the ICC's East Asia-Pacific development zone.

Indonesia finished fifth in last year's East Asia-Pacific Cup behind Japan, the Cook Islands, Vanuatu and Tonga, countries which all have a longer cricket history.

The groups for the ACC Trophy are:

GROUP A GROUP B GROUP C GROUP D
UAE Oman Kuwait Qatar
Saudi Arabia Maldives Nepal Afghanistan
Brunei Bahrain Bhutan Iran
Malaysia Singapore Hong Kong Thailand
Myanmar Indonesia*

*Inclusion dependant on successful Asian Cricket Council membership application.
