The final group match of the Tri-Series in Port of Spain, Trinidad, saw Zimbabwe record an overwhelming victory by 194 runs. What was most alarming about the margin of victory was that the same two teams will meet again on Saturday in the tournament final. It could well be another 'no contest'.

Zimbabwe found the gentle Bermudan bowling much to their liking (they rested two of their best bowlers - George O'Brien and Dwayne Leverock for this game) and rattled up 338 for seven in their fifty overs. After the trauma of the recent defeats against the West Indies, this was welcome relief for the Zimbabwean batsmen. Brendan Taylor missed out on a century as he was bowled by the last ball of the fiftieth over - his 98 had come in just 72 balls. Team mates Vusi Sibanda (78), Terry Duffin (60) and Chamu Chibhabha (43) also helped themselves to some easy runs.

Bermuda made no effort to try to attack their target when their turn came to bat and they crawled their way to just 144 for seven in 50 overs. Treadwell Gibbons made a turgid 33 off 85 balls and only Irvine Romaine (62) attempted to get on top of the bowlers.

This performance will certainly give plenty of ammunition to the detractors of Associate Nations' cricket; it also showed that, although Zimbabwe may have dropped well behind the other top countries, they may still be some distance ahead of most of the Associates. But maybe Bremuda will surprise everyone on Saturday?
