Bill - These guys are about to sign new contracts. There isn't going to be a clear out after the first Test unless we offer 6-month ones. We are not in a financial position to give people contracts and then not pick them.
Players - Grab what you can, sign up quick. As I said before the offer may not still be there by the end of Sunday's match!

I'm afraid we may have to go down the Dutch league of nations route. We need a spinner who can actually turn a ball. Don't seem to have anyone capable of that?
Bill (Belfast)
Leave wor Gary alone. Seriously though, I suspect after the first Test there will be a cull. I don't expect the Irish have any sort of a chance in the World Cup Qualifiers unless Stirling or Kevin O'Brien do something mercurial. Ford will have a clear out.

It will be interesting to see how seriously Afghanistan take the U19 World Cup. Have they registered Rashid Khan and Mujeed Zadran in their squad? Since their success at the Asia U19 Cup I'd be surprised if they didn't go all out this time to really make a name for themselves. Tough group for Ireland Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan!

William Porterfield met opposite number Asghar Staniksai in Sharjah looking like an old boxer who once had the measure of a brash youngster but now knows he is likely to get beaten up. The difference between the two sides - one on a seemingly unstoppable rise and the other in slow decline - is that if Ireland reach a fourth successive World Cup it will be a major surprise, while Afghanistan are not only expected to qualify but to give a good account of themselves in the finals."
