CIYMS began their quest for European glory with two wins on the opening day of the tournament in Spain.

Irish youth international Carson McCullough took two wickets in the opening over of their clash with Cyprus champions Moufflons, going on to take four wickets in a one-sided contest.

Skipper John Matchett took 2 for 2 also as their opponents slumped to 15 for 6 at one point, recovering somewhat to a very modest 66.

Chris Dougherty (24), Carson McCullough (19*), and John Matchett (18*) were all in the runs in a convincing seven wickets win.

The evening game saw the Belfast side lose Jason van der Merwe and Max Burton without scoring to be in early trouble at 2/2 against Calpe Giants of Gibaltar.

However, former Irish international Dougherty shared stands of 49 with McCullough - who hit three sixes and two fours in a ten-ball 27 - and an unbroken 84 in 34 balls with Matchett.

'Doc' thumped five fours and three sixes in his unbeaten 54 from 26 balls, while Matchett's 18-ball 46 not out included four sixes and fours.

A total of 136 for 3 was always beyond the Gibraltar outfit, with two wickets for Mark Best and guesting Hills' seamer Cian Nulty.

Two sixes in the last over though denied CIYMS the bonus point that would have taken them top of the table as Calpe ended on 97/6.

Saturday's games have them facing leaders Cluj (Romania) and Oslo (Norway).
