Joy quickly turned to horror for Carrickfergus Seconds who hours after beating Donaghcloney Mill in the Intermediate final were informed by the NCU that they had fielded an ineligible player.

The Middle Road club has beaten Donaghcloney Mill by four wickets in the final at Downpatrick with Glen Graham striking the winning boundary.

Their team included Gordon Browne who won many admirers for his battle with a serious illness after collapsing during a Premier League game last season.

However, Carrick's celebratory party was cut short just before 10pm when the NCU posted a short statement on their Twitter account saying that the match was awarded to Donaghcloney Mill as Carrick had fielded an ineligible player.

The Union had been alerted in a telephone call following the final to the fact that 16 year-old Luca Johnston had transferred to the club after the May 31st cut-off point for cup compeitions.

Johnston and another player joined Carrickfergus from Academy.

The trophy and medals will now be presented to Donaghcloney Mill.
