Vincent stars as Ireland U19's defeat Warriors XI
As part of their preparations for the Under 19 World Cup European Qualifier in Jersey at the end of July, Ireland's Under 19s played a North West Warriors XI at Beechgrove on Sunday.
Clontarf's Andrew Vincent stole the show with a brilliant 90 as Ryan Eagleson's young charges chased down a revised target of 204 in 41 overs to win by five wickets with an over to spare.
Vincent - son of former Irish interational Deryck - built his innings to perfection, watchful in the early stages before accelerating as his confidence grew.
He hit 7 fours and cleared the ropes 5 times in his 90 from 101 balls, sharing a third wicket stand of 131 with Ballyspallen left-hander Graeme Kennedy (3 fours, 2 sixes).
Jack Burton (23) and Mark Donnegan (18) both got starts, while skipper Harry Tector (12*) ensured no late dramas as Vincent and Kennedy both departed with the winning post in sight.
Earlier Johnny Robinson slammed 7 fours and 5 sixes in a powerful undefeated 77 from just 45 balls to get the Warriors XI up to 216 for 9.
Kyle Hamilton (41) and Matty Barr (32) added 69 for the fourth wicket after early wickets, but it was Robinson's pyrotechnics which ensured a stern examination for the U19s - one they passed with flying colours.
Harry Tector took 3 for 54, while Reece Kelly (2-13) and Jack Carson (2-37) were also among the wickets.
The Irish U19s continue their warm-up matches with a game against the Emerging Knights next Sunday at Lisburn (11am).
At Beechgrove, Londonderry.
